In overruling a half-century of precedents, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that states can now require remote and online businesses to collect and remit sales taxes. Lindsay LaCava, a partner in the law firm of Baker & McKenzie LLP, examines the reasons for the High Court’s decision, while showing how you can prepare to lessen the upcoming tax compliance burden as states increasingly target out-of-state businesses as an additional source of needed revenue.
